The Department of Linguistics, in conjunction with the newly upgraded
Language Sciences Center, is searching for one and possibly two tenure
track faculty members.  The Center serves as the focus of an
interdisciplinary language community of faculty and graduate students
with interests in the structure, processing, and acquisition of signed
and spoken languages.  Successful applicants will participate in
department and center activities, teach graduate and undergraduate
courses in linguistics, and supervise graduate students with research
interests in linguistics, computational linguistics, and
psycholinguistics.
 
Area of specialization is open, however, we are especially interested
in applicants with primary interests in one of the following three
areas: (1) phonology and/or phonetics with preference given to those
with interests in speech processing, recognition, production, or the
linguistic structures related to these; (2) syntax with preference
given to those with interests in computational and/or semantic issues;
and (3) language typology and linguistic universals across spoken
and/or signed languages, particularly in syntax and/or morphology.  We
expect to make appointments in each of these areas within the next few
years. We are primarily targeting the searches at junior candidates;
however, outstanding senior candidates, especially at the Associate
Professor level, are also encouraged to apply.  We especially
encourage applicants who are interested in actively contributing to a
strong interdisciplinary training and research community.  The
