RESEARCH STAFF FELLOWSHIP

AVAILABLE STARTING IN JULY 1997 OR LATER

IN

Voice and Swallowing Physiology

At the National Insitutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland

in the Voice and Speech Section, NIDCD, NIH

The Voice and Speech Section in the Intramural Research Program
of the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication
Disorders is seeking applicants for a Post Doctoral Staff
Fellowships in Voice and Swallowing Physiology. Applicants
should have a doctoral degree and no more than five years of
relevant post doctoral research experience.

This is a full time research training fellowship which can be
both clinical and basic in focus in voice and swallowing
physiology and disorders. The program is involved in research
on the development of neuromuscular prostheses for the treatment
of voice and swallowing disorders. Studies involve the
neurophysiology of laryngeal motor control for speech and
swallowing, muscle stimulation, neuroprosthetics, and the
evaluation of voice and swallowing disorders before and after
treatment. Incumbents can select those areas they plan to focus
on. Opportunities exist for gaining exposure to other areas of
scientific investigation including neurobiology, neuroplasticity
and molecular genetics.

Appointments are made for 2 years and can be extended up to 5
years.

The stipend ranges between $35,000 and $67,000 per year and is
dependent upon current salary, years of postdoctoral research
and postdoctoral clinical experience. There are annual stipend
increases and benefits include health benefits and support for
coursework in any area of the biomedical sciences and research
techniques.

Applications are being received until September 30, 1997.

NIH is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Those interested should submit a CV, Bibliography, statement of
research goals and addresses of 3 to 5 references to:

clinical and basic in focus in the study of risk factors for
complex multifactorial developmental speech disorders.
Experimental procedures for measuring speech motor learning,
speech perception and auditory self monitoring are being used to
study those at risk for such disorders. Genetic studies are
being conducted in families. Applicants should have a
background or interest in developmental speech production
learning, speech perception and genetics of idiopathic speech
disorders. Fellows will be a member of a multi-disciplinary
team. Opportunities exist for gaining exposure to other areas
of scientific investigation including neurobiology,
neuroplasticity and molecular genetics.

Appointments are made for 2 years and can be extended up to 5 years.
