PERMANENT POSITION AT OSTFOLD COLLEGE, DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL
SCIENCES AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES


Assuming that the Ministry of Education certifies the Plan of
Instruction for the one year extension course in Business
English and European Studies, there is a permanent position
available as

      Associate Professor/Assistant Professor/Lecturer in English for
                            Special Purposes.

Within the Department, the Institute of Business Languages and
Philological Studies has been selected as the National Resource
Center for Business Languages in Norway. The position is
connected to the English Section, which is responsible for a one
year Foundation Course in English, a one year Foundation Course
in Business English, a one year extension course in Business
English and European Studies, and a half year study in Didactic
English at the Dept. of Education.  In addition, the Ministry
has certified the Department's plan for a one half year
extension course of the one year Foundation Course in English
and the English Section is working to offer this course as soon
as possible.

The applicant who receives this position will first and foremost
be engaged in teaching the one year extension course in Business
English and European Studies. Teaching duties will include
lectures, seminars and practice sessions. Much time will be used
advising students in connection with projects and papers. In
addition come administrative duties.

Special Qualifications

Applicants must have a very high level of competence in modern
English linguistics. It is desirable that research in the field
of English for special purposes can be documented. Applicants
must be proficient in both written and oral English at a very
high level.  Relevant work and teaching experience on the
college/university level will also be taken into
consideration. Applicants must be acquainted with
Norwegian/Scandinavian language and culture.

General Qualifications

To be hired as Associate Professor the applicant must have a
Norwegian doctoral degree or a corresponding doctoral degree
from abroad certified as equivalent to the Norwegian degree, or
comparable competence documented in academic work of comparable
size and quality. Pedagogic training or experience in
teaching/advising is required, either at college/university or a
lower level.

To be hired as Assistant Professor/Lecturer the applicant must
have an advanced degree from a university or college or a
comparable higher education. Pedagogic training or experience in
teaching/advising in higher education is required. Moreover, one
or more of the following qualifications are desirable, depending
on their breadth and depth: academic production - pedagogic
experience - management and participation in research projects
or certified trail and developmental work - work on textbooks
and similar materials - creation of academic collections. In
addition relevant experience in working life will be taken into
consideration.

As stipulated in Norwegian law (Circular F-14-95), a committee
will be responsible for hiring. Applicants may ask to be
evaluated as Associate or Assistant professor, or to apply for
advancement to a personal professorship in accordance with the
Norwegian system of higher education. Applicants must state this
in their application.

If no qualified applicants apply, it may be possible to be hired
on a temporary basis. The position might then be changed to
permanent when the necessary qualifications are attained during
the time of employment.

Employment will be based on conditions stipulated in the
Norwegian laws of Civil Servants of March 4, 1983, of State
Pensions of July 28, 1949 and of Retirement of December 21,
1956. Employment is otherwise subject to current rule and
regulations.

Ostfold College practices Gender Quotas in accordance with the
adjustment of the employment agreement for state colleges.

Hiring will be decided by the college's Staffing Committee.
