   The Department of Japanese Studies of Salem-Teikyo
 University invites applications for a one year position
 as a Japanese instructor, beginning August, 1997.
 Responsibilities include teaching 6 modules (24 credit
 hours). We are seeking a person who can teach
 undergraduate Japanese language courses for non-native
 Japanese. Applicants must have native fluency in
 Japanese and a Master's degree in the relevant fields.
 Yaruki no aru kata, mattemasu! (This year 6 students
 passed Level 3 of the Japanese Proficiency Test
 provided by the Japan Foundation, and 3 students passed
 the initial screening for the 1998-1999 Mombushoo
 scholarship.)

Senior Posts, Department of English, City University of Hong Kong


	Two senior posts are available in the Department of English at
the City University of Hong Kong, which is one of the eight tertiary
institutions funded by the Hong Kong Government, and has a student
population of over 17,000.  The Department of English has over 40
academic staff and is recognized as one of the leading departments of
its kind in the region.  A strong research program has been
developed and there are over 40 funded research projects in progress
in the areas of applied linguistics, discourse analysis, TESL, and
communication studies.  The Department offers a BA (Hons) and an MA in
TESL, and a BA (Hons) in English for Professional Communication.  An
MA in Communication and Multimedia Technologies is being planned to
start in September 1998.  In addition there are research degree
students on MPhil and PhD programs.


1 Professor (Salary: not less than HK$90,380 per month. US$1=HK$7.8):

	Applicants should have specializations related to several of
the disciplines in the department, which include TESL, media and
communication studies, discourse analysis, and ESP.  The successful
candidate will have an international reputation for scholarship with a
strong publications record, and will be expected to provide effective
academic leadership.  Substantial relevant experience in a senior
academic post is highly desirable.  The appointee may be offered a
concurrent appointment as Head of Department.


2 Professor (Salary range: HK$66,055 - $87,755 per month. US$1=KH$7.8):

	The appointee will be responsible for providing academic
leadership in ESL teacher education.  Applicants should have a
doctorate in applied linguistics, TESL, or a related area, with
substantial relevant teaching experience and a strong record of
research and publication.
