Position:  LECTURER (TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT)

1.  Proposed Appointment:  Lecturer (temporary appointment). Initial
appointment is for one year.  An appointment to a second or third year
may be considered annually based on performance and budget.

2.  Available for the Academic Year: 1997-1998

3.  Salary:  Placement on the salary schedule is dependent upon academic
preparation and professional experience

4.  Teaching Load:  12 semester units.

5.  Course Level: Undergraduate and Graduate

6.  Specific Postion Characteristics:  The position is primarily to
strengthen the department's offerings in Applied Linguistics-TESOL.
Thus, it is crucial that the successful candidate be capable of teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in TESOL as well as graduate courses
to students who are interested in English-as-Second Language.

Qualifications:

1.  Academic Preparation:  Candidates with the Ph.D. or nearing
completion of the doctorate may be considered for a lectureship
(temporary) appointment.

2.  Teaching or Other Professional Experience:  Preference will be given
to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, as evidenced
both in the letters of recommendation and in teaching evaluations.
Strong preference will be given to candidates with the ability to relate
to an ethnically diverse student population and with K-12 interests.
