Subject:  Job: 1 month contract for Spanish phoneticians

The Speech Technology and Research Lab at SRI International is seeking
native Latin-American Spanish speakers with experience in phonetic
transcription for a one-time, short-term transcription task this
summer.

The following are the specific requirements that need to be met:

* Native Latin-American Spanish Speaker

* Proficient in phonetics, with experience doing phonetic
  transcription

* Work to begin on or after Aug 11, and to be completed by mid
  September

* Need either:

  - to be local to Menlo Park, CA area

  OR we can send software and communicate remotely, if you have
  access to a PC or Unix system with the following:

  - CD-ROM drive
  - ability to listen to data at 16kHz
  - high-quality headphones
  - in a quiet environment

* Task Involves:

  - Doing a broad phonetic transcription (includes judging
    native/non-native-ness of phones) of:

	approximately 1000 sentences, plus
	approximately 1000 words

  - Filling out a short phonetics-related questionnaire for
    approximately 200 non-native speakers, based on listening to
    approximately 2 minutes of speech from each speaker

  - We estimate approximately 90-150 hours of work

* Payment will be a flat rate in the approximate range of $3000-$4000,
  depending on the final specifications of the task
