Clausal Architecture and Case in Icelandic by Johannes G. Jonsson

This thesis discusses a number of interrelated issues in Icelandic syntax,
such as verb raising, A-movement, negative object movement, case checking,
agreement and expletive constructions. It is shown that a functional
architecture with IP, TP, AgrOP and NegP is needed to account for argument
alignment in Icelandic and movement is argued to be driven by the needs of
the moved element despite many apparent counterexamples.
