The Division of Computational Linguistics in the Dept. of Linguistics
at the University of Tuebingen, Germany is searching for

	      two theoretical or computational linguists

to work in a project of the Sonderforschungsbereich 340 ``Theoretische
Grundlagen der Computerlinguistik''. The project is concerned with the
development, formalization, and implementation of a large syntax
fragment for German in combination with a constraint logic programming
language for this purpose. It continues the work carried out in the
projects B4 and B8, cf., http://www.sfs.nphil.uni-tuebingen.de/sfb/

Applicants should have either one of the following qualifications:

1. strong background in the syntax of German, good knowledge of HPSG,
   and an interest in the formalization and implementation of
   a large German syntax fragment.

2. intimate knowledge of the theory and implementation of constraint
   resolution and an interest in applying this knowledge to the
   linguistic domain of constraints on word order.

The positions are at the rank of "Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter"
(M.A. or Ph.D. required).  The salary is on the German payscale of BAT
IIa/2 (with M.A. in hand) or BATIIa (with Ph.D. in hand).  The
positions are funded for three years (until December 2000).

experience/interests, and names and addresses of two referees.  A
sample publication representative of the applicant's research
expertise would be helpful.

The Department of French & Italian at Louisiana State University is
seeking to hire several Instructors.

Qualifications:

M.A. degree or equivalent with concentration in French, Language
Education, Second Language Acquisition or Applied Linguistics; native
or near-native fluency in French; experience in teaching French at
college or secondary level required. Excellence in teaching, knowledge
of multimedia applications to teaching. Responsibilities: teach
elementary and intermediate courses in French. A few positions may
require addition competence in Cajun/Louisiana French. Salary will be
commensurate with qualifications and experience. Anticipated hire date

            Arabic Computational Linguistic Positions

The Computing Research Laboratory (CRL) at New Mexico State
University, a leading research laboratory specializing in multilingual
computing and applications has an immediate opening for an Arabic
computational linguist.

CRL urgently seeks qualified a individual to lead the development of
the static knowledge sources (grammars, lexicons, etc.) for the
analysis side of an Arabic machine translation system. The mandatory
requirements for the position include:

 +Graduate work in linguistics
 +Expertise in natural language processing or related areas
 +Fluency in Arabic
 +Fluency in English
 +Experience with word processing on the computer
 +Good communication skills

Any of the following will be a plus:

 +Expertise in programming
 +Graduate work in Arabic linguistics
 +Expertise in Arabic natural language processing

Duration of appointment: 18 months, with a possibility of extension.
Salary will strongly depend on qualifications. This could be an
excellent post-doctorate experience.

If you have a M.Sc. or equivalent and 2 years of working experience,
