ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN TOKYO


The Department of English, Division of Languages at International Christian
University, a Christianity-based university in Tokyo announces a
tenure-track opening at the assistant  or associate professor level.

The candidate must have specialized interest in teaching English for
academic purposes in an intensive English Language Program and be qualified
to teach Teaching of English as a Foreign Language and Issues of English
Language Education in Japan. The starting date is April 1, 1998, for an
initial three-year contract. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the
successful candidate should also be willing to take on administrative
responsibilities in the English Language Program and university-wide
committee work.

Requirements: Doctorate in hand in Applied Linguistics or Linguistics,
publications and evidence of scholarly potential, Japanese/English
bilingual competence. Teaching experience at secondary and/or university
levels preferred.  International experience, administrative experience and
interests desirable.

Subject:  Postdoctoral Fellowship Available

The Mind-Articulation Project at MIT's Department of Linguistics and
Philosophy has a postdoctoral fellowship available in 1997-1998 for
interdisciplinary study of psycholinguistics and the cognitive
neuroscience of language.  We seek a recent PhD whose work substantially
combines linguistics and neuroscience, with a background in imaging
strongly preferred.  Applicants must be willing to spend a considerable
amount of time in Japan working at the Tokyo Mind-Articulation Project site.

The postdoctoral fellow would join existing research groups at MIT studying
language acquisition, language processing, and linguistic competence using
a variety of experimental and modeling techniques.  These techniques
include MEG and fMRI imaging, as well as experimental studies of human
sentence processing and acquisition.

UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD - LECTURERSHIP IN FRENCH LINGUISTICS

The university proposes to appoint a Faculty Lecturer in French
Linguistics with effect from 1 October 1997 or as soon as possible
thereafter.   The successful candidate may be offered a tutorial
fellowship at St Catherine's College, and college lecturerships ar
Queen's, St Hugh's, and St John's Colleges, in which case the combined
university and college salary would be according to age on a scale up to
33,767 sterling per annum (under review).  Additional college allowances may
