Description:

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures seeks a dynamic
scholar and teacher who is a specialist in the area of Chinese
sociolinguistics or cultural linguistics.  We are hoping to build upon
our strengths with a candidate whose research agenda contributes to a
program in literary, theoretical, and cultural studies.

Responsibilties:

The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Chinese
linguistics, cultural linguistics, and language pedagogy as well as
managing and directing the Chinese language program.  The position
also includes coordinating and directing the fall term orientation for
graduate teaching fellows in Chinese, organizing the summer Chinese
language program, and active research and publication in the field of
Chinese sociolinguistics or cultural linguistics.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or ABD in Chinese linguistics.  Native or near-native fluency in
Mandarin Chinese and English, attested ability and recent experience
in directing and participating in a large undergraduate Chinese
language program, the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in Chinese linguistics, cultural linguistics, and language
pedagogy, demonstrated expertise and graduate work in foreign language
education, and formal graduate training in Chinese cultural studies.
We will give priority to candidates with demonstrated expertise and
graduate work in foreign language education, and formal graduate
training in Chinese culture.  Candidates with a well-developed
research portfolio and direction are encouraged to apply.

                  POSITION DESCRIPTION
                  ====================

  This researcher will join an R&D team dedicated to creation and early
investigation of advanced technologies. She/he will focus on projects
in the areas of information filtering, retrieval and integration, natural
text processing, fact extraction.

Her/his responsibilities would include:

 - lead development of innovative ideas and preparation of powerful,
winning research proposals for Government R&D funding, in cooperation with
Business Development group;

 - act as a Principal Investigator or a key researcher on a variety of
research and technology development projects;

 - interface with customers;

 - lead rapid prototyping of proof of concept demonstrations;

 - write and publish conference papers, journal articles.

 - support transition of promising technologies into engineering
organization
