Tenure-Track Appointment

The Linguistics Department, Memorial University of Newfoundland, is
seeking to make a tenure-track appointment, effective 1 January 1998,
subject to budgetary approval.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Linguistics with a primary specialization in
syntax and secondary specializations in morphology and semantics; a
demonstrated record of effective teaching at both undergraduate and
graduate levels, and graduate supervision; and a strong record of
research publications.  Deadline for receipt of applications is
September 17, 1997.

Subject:  SGML/Lexicographer Position North VA

Growing foreign language services company in Arlington, Virginia,
seeks lexicographer with at least 10 years experience in writing,
editing and compiling bilingual dictionaries, glossaries, and managing
computerized lexicographic databases.  Working knowledge of SGML
necessary, along with appropriate computer skills, preferably on more
than one hardware platform.  Education: MA or MS in linguistics,
languages and literature or related humanistic fields preferred.

Ideal candidate will have worked in coordination of dictionary and/or
glossary development projects, and have experience in lexicographic
system design for implementation in computer database form.  This
candidate will have worked in digitizing printed materials in foreign
scripts and obtaining electronic versions of printed documents.  S/he
will have worked with SGML (TEI), and will be familiar with more than
one hardware/software computer platform. In addition, s/he will have
worked with more than one language in addition to English, and have
knowledge of international character encoding schemes.  Send resumes
