ASSOCIATE LECTURER IN LINGUISTICS
Ref 532

The appointee will contribute to the teaching of various units
at undergraduate and coursework graduate levels in the fields of
English language, functional approaches to English grammar and
communication skills.  The successful applicant will also be
required to undertake an active research program and to
contribute from time to time to professional development
programs organised by the department.

Applicants must have an honours degree or a masters degree by
coursework in a relevant field, and have or be well advanced
towards a relevant doctorate.  They must be able to demonstrate
and document substantial and successful teaching experience in
functional grammar and English language, both in undergraduate
teaching and in professional development or non-award courses.

Preference will be given to applicants with evidence of the
development and publication of teaching and learning materials
or of an interest in alternative modes of program delivery and
to those who can show that they have begun a program of research
and publication, and have been actively involved in conferences
and seminars.

LECTURER IN LINGUISTICS

The appointee will be required to teach in a range of
undergraduate and postgraduate units, to supervise research
students, and to carry out an active program of research and
publication in the fields of sociolinguistics, sociology of
language and intercultural discourse studies.

Applicants must have a doctorate in a relevant discipline with a
focus on sociolinguistics or ethnographic research.  Applicants
must be able to demonstrate and document a record of successful
teaching in sociolinguistics, sociology of language or
intercultural discourse studies at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels.  In addition, applicants must also be able
to provide evidence of effective research relevant to this
position, through publications and participation in major
research projects.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in
research into language learning and teaching or communication
skills training, particularly in multilingual contexts;
curriculum and materials development; and experience in
alternative modes of program delivery.
