We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Can anyone please recommend any recent papers about evidence for or against a
critical period in the acquisition of SECOND LANGUAGE PHONLOGY. Many thanks,

I have been searching for quite some time and with very sparse results for
electronic texts/corpora in modern South Asian languages, particularly
Hindi or Urdu. Do any members of the list know of any such texts?
Alternatively, can anyone suggest where to look further. Thank you.

Hello,

We have a student in the Swarthmore linguistics department who's interested
in doing work on the Cakchique language of Guatemala. He's a sophomore and
has spent some time in Guatemala, and he's interested in meeting up with a
linguist currently working on Cakchique who might need a research assistant
for the summer of 1999.

If you can be of some assistance, please email Stephanie Strassel,
sstrass1 at swarthmore.edu or Donna Jo Napoli, dnapoli1 at swarthmore.edu.

Thank you!

Subject: SITE(S) FOR LINGUISTICS

Hello,
My students in Linguistics have now access to the WEB and they
want to know whether there are any sites where they can query and get
answers or further information/readings. Something similar exists in
the sciences where there are specific web-sites, say for Quantum Physics
or Fractals and Chaos Maths.
I promise to pst a summary, if sufficient answers are received.
    Thanks in advance,

Raymond
