CONGRESS ON THE OCCASION OF THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE INSTITUTE OF
APPLIED LINGUISTICS, TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
SAARLAND
30 November and 1 December 1998

CONGRESS THEME:
MODELS OF TRANSLATION - FOUNDATIONS OF METHODOLOGY,
EVALUATION AND COMPUTATIONAL MODELLING
ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
The Institute, and the University, will be celebrating their 50th
Anniversary in 1998. On this occasion, we would like to extend an
invitation to participants whose work is in Translation, Interpreting
or related forms of intercultural communication on a scientific and/or
professional basis, to join us in the congress announced above.
The congress programme will consist of papers of 45 minutes in length.
We hope to publish a selection of papers from the congress. There are
also preparations underway for book exhibitions and poster sessions.
The congress languages will be English, French, German, Russian and
Spanish, and there are plans for simultaneous interpreting for some of
the language pairs.
Abstracts (max. 500 words) should reach us by 31 March 1998. Poster
sessions should arranged with us separately.
A circular with a list of papers accepted by the Programme Committee
and further information will be issued during May/June 1998.

This message is a reminder that the deadline for receipt of summaries for
the First International Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation,
LREC, is Monday 1st December.
Summaries of papers and posters on any aspect of Evaluation of Language
Engineering Technologies are welcome, and should consist of about 800 words.
The topics of the conference are:
-- Issues in the design, construction and use of Languages Resources
(theoretical & best practice)
-- Issues in Human Language Technologies evaluation
-- General issues on Language Resources and international issues.
Authors are asked to submit in either:
-- Electronic format, ASCII file, to lrec at ilc.pi.cnr.it Attn: Antonio

-- Hard copy. Please send five hard copies to:

All the submissions should include a separate title page, providing the
following information: the type of proposal (paper, poster, demo, paper
plus demo, panel); the title to be printed in the program of the

email, URL; the required facilities (overhead projector, data display;
other hardware, platforms, communications); and 5 keywords.
