We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

I am looking for a "modern latin" dictionary, that includes the latin
 version of concepts as:

 Western : Fabula Americae Occidentalis
Video cassette: Sonorarum visualumque taeniarum cistellula
 Publicist: Laudativis nuntiis vulgator

I would appreciate any reference or even any vocabulary list.

Subject: Native English Speakers - Questionnaire

SUBJECT: Indirect Speech Acts As A Way Of Expressing Politeness.
A friend of mine is writing an MA thesis. For this purpose she needs some
native speakers of English fill out a questionnaire. The questionnaire is
the main part of her MA thesis. It is designed to check how native English
speakers express politeness to their hearers using indirect speech acts.
The If you would like to contribute to her work please send an empty message
at <mlisecki at kki.net.edu> with "ques" in a subject field and I shall mail
the questionnaire to you. If you can pass on the questionnaire to anybody
who might contribute to her work I am sure she would be glad as it is almost
impossible to find any English native speakers at our university. At least,
there are not enough of them to base her study on that.
The questionnaire is aimed at anyone whose English is a native language.

Subject: Idioms

A friend of mine is writing an MA thesis on "English 'food and drink'
idioms". She would like to include the etymology of the idioms gathered
together with some background on the approach techniques and their
realization in transaltion of idioms as well as the approach towards them in
the subject of teaching - what are the effective ways of teaching them.
She would be glad if you could direct her at any on/off-line resources on
the subject. I will, of course, post a summary of any findings or
bibliography on that. Anybody willing to contact her please write me at
mlisecki at kki.net.pl and include "idioms" in the subject field.
