POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position	Director/Associate Professor
		Intensive English Program and MA/TESL Program

This is a tenure-track, ten-month appointment at the rank of Associate
Professor.  Begin on or before August 15, 1998.

Qualifications	Candidates must demonstrate the following minimum
qualifications:
  Ph.D. in applied linguistics or TESL, with an interest in one or more
specializations such as computer-assisted instruction (CAI), writing,
testing, etc.
 A substantial record of teaching and scholarship which qualifies for
appointment as Associate Professor
 Demonstrated commitment to teacher preparation and mentoring
 Extensive knowledge of and experience in an IEP
 Demonstrated leadership abilities within a framework of participatory
management, shared governance, and the principles and practices of equal
opportunity
 Administrative experience
 Experience in faculty development and evaluation
 The ability to initiate and direct classroom and program research

Responsibilities of the Director.  The teaching load is the equivalent of
two courses per year.  The Director is expected to teach regularly in
both programs, advise students, continue to pursue research and
publication, and administer the Intensive English Program and MA/TESL
Program.  The Director must work effectively and collegially with
professionally and ethnically diverse faculty, students, and staff;
establish student recruitment strategies; maintain high standards of
program operations; and articulate a clear vision for the programs.

Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

General Information.  The English Department at Colorado State University
has a tenure-track faculty of 43, approximately 410 majors, and over 130
graduate students.  We appoint more than 40 graduate assistants who teach
expository writing, English as a second language, computer-assisted
writing, creative writing, and literature.  Undergraduate concentrations
in literature, language, secondary teacher education, and creative
writing lead to a B.A. in English.  Master of Arts degrees are offered in
literature, TESL, teaching, and communication development.  A Master of
Fine Arts is offered in creative writing.  More information is available
