Subject: Job Opportunities in Natural Language Processing

The speech and natural language group at Canon Research Centre Europe
(CRE) is expanding rapidly. Having more than doubled in size over the
past year, we still have positions for a researcher and a software
engineer to join our high calibre NLP team.

We work on NLP technology for a number of different applications, with
a focus on information retrieval and interactive spoken language
interfaces. We are also developing medium and large vocabulary
continuous speech recognition software.

Canon, currently celebrating its 60th anniversary, has 70,000
employees worldwide and is an acknowledged world-leader in many
markets, including cameras, photocopiers and printers. Constant
innovation underlies Canon's success and at CRE you will have the
opportunity to play a large part in this. We also offer an excellent
working environment and a highly competitive salary and benefits
package.

We have the following requirements:

NLP researcher role: excellent programming skills and significant
relevant experience in one or more areas of NLP. Experience of
building real systems is highly desirable.

NLP software engineering role: excellent programming skills in a
variety of languages (for example, C/C++, functional languages,
Perl, Tcl/Tk) and experience of constructing large robust software
systems are required. Experience in an area of NLP would be an
    advantage, but is not essential.

We are particularly looking for people with a first-class academic
background, a high degree of curiosity and the ability to learn
quickly - self-motivated people who like to continuously improve and
excel.

For more details on CRE and a detailed description of these and
other job opportunities, please consult our webpages at:

    http://www.cre.canon.co.uk/

To apply, please send a CV with a covering letter, stating which
position you are interested in, to:
