Assistant Director of Lower-Division Spanish/Spanish Lecturer: 3-year
renewable position starting Fall 1998.  MA in Spanish applied
linguistics, foreign language education, or related linguistics area
required, Ph.D. or ABD in specified fields desirable.  Duties: Assist
with the administration and direction of a large lower-division
Spanish program comprising multiple sections of five courses;
participate in pre-term and ongoing training programs for graduate
teaching assistants; contribute to the development of diagnostic and
placement testing programs; teach one lower-division Spanish course
per semester.

Requirements: native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and
English; demonstrated excellence in lower-division language teaching;
knowledge of proficiency-oriented instruction, testing and assessment.
Supervisory experience highly desirable.

MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Linguistics at MIT invites applications for an
entry-level tenure-track position in PHONOLOGY starting September
1998.  Responsibilities include sharing in the teaching of
undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars and the supervision of
student research. Linguists with research interests in one or more of
the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: phonetics,
acquisition, typology, fieldwork on un(der)-documented languages.

samples of research, and at least three letters of reference by
