Many thanks to

Robert Ratcliffe
Bob Hoberman
Wayles Brown
Waruno Mahdi
Ron Artstein

for giving me the translations of the mystery words. Turns out they
are indeed Arabic words--names of months. In fact, if I had known a
fact about Arabic dialectology, namely that [z] corresponds with [dh]
(edh) I could have found both of them in my little Webster's desk
dictionary. For those interested in the Moslem calendar, more
information can be found at

Thanks to all who have made a poet in our English department very
happy.
