Subject:  Sociolinguistics Focus on languages of South Asia


The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a
full-time tenure-track assistant professor of linguistics, beginning
August 21, 1999.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in linguistics.  Focus on languages of South Asia, with
expertise for research and teaching in socio-linguistics. Near-native
fluency in Hindi is also required. Familiarity with Hindi literature
is desirable. Duties will include teaching and research in
socio-linguistics, supervision of Hindi language courses, and teaching
advanced Hindi courses. Applications should include a description of
research interests, complete vita, reprints and names of at least
three scholars familiar with the candidate's work, who may be asked to
write letters of reference. Salary commensurate with experience.

Tenure-track assistant professor beginning August 1999.  Teaching includes
courses in Structure of English as well as History and Dialects of
English, ESL, and graduate seminars in the candidate's specialty.
Standard teaching assignment is 2 courses per semester.  Teaching
experience and PhD required; publications preferred.
