Consulting Position for Linguists

The Reasoning Group at Educational Testing Service is seeking a linguist
to serve as a consultant for special projects. The selected individual
will participate in a three-day meeting. The desired outcome of the
meeting is the production of a set of high-quality documents related to
speech science--specifically hearing, perception, instrumentation, and
testing.

The successful candidate must meet EACH of the following requirements:

(1) The Ph.D. degree in Linguistics must be in hand. A.B.D. is not
acceptable. Ph.D. degree holders in a field other than linguistics and
linguists with less than a completed doctorate should NOT apply.
(2) Travel is required between January 27 and 31, 1998. Reasonable
travel expenses (within the United States) will be covered.
(3) Strong specialization in or knowledge of speech science, acoustic
phonetics, perception, and/or cognition is required. Knowledge within
the fields of audiology or speech-language pathology is a plus but is
not required. A sophisticated understanding of sociolinguistic
principles is important but not in itself sufficient.
(4) Excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and an intimate
knowledge of the English language.

An honorarium of $1000 plus travel expenses will be paid for
participation in this project. Additional follow-up consulting work
after the meeting is likely, depending on the individuals performance
and usefulness to the project.

Please send a brief email message summarizing your qualifications
related to the four requirements above to thabick at ets.org You should
also attach or include your resume. Fax is acceptable, but please do not
leave voicemail messages.
