Subject:  Assistant professor for MA TEFL

Bilkent University, an independent English-medium university in Ankara,
Turkey, is seeking an assistant professor for its MA TEFL
Program.  The applicant should have an earned Ph.D. in Applied
Linguistics, TESOL, or related field; and have university level
teaching experience in two or more of the following areas: second language
acquisition, testing, linguistics, sociolinguistics, methodology. We would
especially like an applicant with experience in quantitative research
methods. Responsibilities include teaching two graduate level courses per
semester and advising students on theses.  The position is one-year,
renewable, beginning September 1, 1999. Bilkent University provides
on-campus housing. Salary is commensurate with experience. Review of
applicants will begin in February 1999, and continue until the position

US-PA-Pittsburgh Software Developer, Machine Translation (French), CMU

The CATALYST project at the Language Technologies Institute, Carnegie
Mellon University, is seeking a talented and energetic individual for
the position of Research Programmer.

CATALYST is a large-scale software system for technical document
translation. The chosen applicant will be responsible for the
following tasks:

* Work with project leaders to define workplan and schedule for
   French module development, deployment and maintenance

* Supervise and participate in the development and maintenance of each
   knowledge source for French (lexicon, grammar, interpretation
   rules, etc.)

* Integrate French knowledge sources into run-time delivery modules

* Participate actively in testing and quality assurance

* Maintain a responsive and professional relationship with customer
   personnel

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:

* Native fluency in French

* Good communication skills in English

* A degree in Computer/Information Science (or related field), or
   equivalent experience

* Software development experience in the Unix environment

* Some coursework in linguistics or computational linguistics

* Experience communicating and working productively within a
   development group

Full-time Salaried Position, Starting Range: $32,000 to $37,000 USD
