For the further development of the Italian systems, Lernout & Hauspie
is currently looking for a
Language Specialist Italian
for the Linguistic Engineering Division
located in Ieper (Belgium)
Function: This person will work on the development of systems in the
field of natural language qprocessing, speech recognition and speech
synthesis. He/she will work in a language development group and
report to the group or project manager.
Profile:
university degree in philology or linguistics, or equivalent
(near-)native Italian
interest in other languages and their linguistic aspects
at least a basic experience with and interest in computers
good knowledge of and/or experience in one or more of the following
areas are considered an asset:
- speech processing, esp. text-to-speech synthesis
- phonetics
- computer linguistics
- natural language processing (NLP)
- spoken dialog systems
- computer technology
- standard software packages
- programming
- other languages than the target language
ability to work in a team and independently
perseverance, accuracy and thoroughness
good social and communicative abilities
willingness to travel abroad for limited periods of time

Voor de ontwikkeling van ons Nederlands tekst-naar-spraak systeem zijn

Spreker met het Algemeen-Nederlands als moedertaal
(vrouwelijke stem, leeftijd 20-45 jaar)
Een standaard Nederlandse uitspraak is een vereiste; ervaring met het
maken van spraakopnames is niet noodzakelijk. Er wordt op korte
termijn begonnen met de opnames in Ieper. Voor een periode van
ongeveer 3 maanden wordt een beschikbaarheid gevraagd varimrend van
enkele uren tot enkele dagdelen per week. Tevens wordt een
(incidentele) beschikbaarheid gevraagd voor een langere periode (1 tot
2 jaar).

Subject: Job opening, Japan
The Center for Language Research at the University of Aizu is
currently accepting applications for 1 full-time, tenure-track
position as Assistant Professor starting May 1, 1999.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in TESOL/TEFL/Applied Linguistics or a related
field and either an M.A. in computer science or knowledge of computer
science, a native speaker of English with 3-5 years of experience in
TESL/TEFL, and ability to teach English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in
computer science and engineering.
Duties: 4-6 classes per semester (each class meets once for 90-minutes
a week); developing course materials; and participating in group
projects, research, committee work, and other university-related
responsibilities.
Salary: Based on the Fukushima Prefectural Salary Scale for
prefectural university employees. Benefits: Subsidized furnished
housing, one-way airfare and shipping, etc.
The following should be included in the submission package:

2) resume (education, publications, previous work/teaching experience)
3) 2-3 recently published papers
4) 3 or more letters of recommendation
5) graduate transcripts
6) a proposal for achieving effective results in English education
using computers, such as UNIX workstations

9) evidence of ability to use computers (e.g., UNIX) or your plan to
acquire such ability
