The following "C1" position in Linguistics at the John F. Kennedy
Institut fuer Nordamerikastudien, Freie Universitaet Berlin (Assistant
Professor level) was announced in the Tagesspiegel July 26, 1998,
deadline for application is August 16, 1998.

The position is non-tenurable for a period of 3 years, with possible
renewal for a 2nd 3-year period.

The following contains the verbatim text of the advertisment in

"Wissenschaftliche Assistentin/Wissenschaftlicher Assistent C1
Zentralinstitut John-F.-Kennedy-Institut fuer Nordamerikastudien

Aufgabengebiete: Lehre und Forschung auf dem Gebiet der allgemeinen
Sprachwissenschaft unter besonderer Bercksichtigung der Struktur,
Geschichte und Varietaeten der englischen Sprache in Nordamerika mit
Schwerpunkt auf den Gebieten Soziolinguistik /Bilingualismus/
Zweitspracherwerb.

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen: Qualifizierte Promotion ( 104 BerlHG) im
o.g. Gebiet.

Erwuenscht: Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse; Erfahrungen in den o.g.
Arbeitsbereichen und Mitarbeit in der Gremienarbeit am
Zentralinstitut.

Duties: Teaching and research in general linguistics with special
attention to the structure, history and varieties of English in North
America, with concentration on the fields Sociolinguistics /
Bilingualism / Second Language Acquisition.

Prerequisites: Ph.D. in one of the above fields ( 104 BerlHG --
Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Desired: excellent knowledge of English, experience in the above
fields and participation in Institute committees.
