The April '98 edition of the Linguistics and Related Topics list is
now available at the URL http://www.cltr.uq.edu.au:8000/conf.html

We have revised the format of the list which is getting quite long, by
adding an internal index by months.

While you're there, also check out some of the other language-related
services we provide by going to our home page:

From: Vincent DeCaen <decaen at chass.utoronto.ca>
Subject: tenselessness?

I have rejected a "tenseless" analysis of ancient Semitic systems, and
have traced the history of this analysis back to the 1820s. my area of
specialization is the verbal system of Standard Biblical Hebrew.

I am looking for scholars who (a) have worked in the area of verbal
semantics and (b) work on either (i) east asian or (ii) creole
systems, hopefully also native speakers and (c) are interested in
exploring the history of verbal semantics for any given language.
involvement can be as simple as providing data for a questionnaire, to
collaboration toward joint papers, given sufficient interest.

the program has the goal of removing the concept "tenselessness" from
the formal linguistic study of non-European systems, and ultimately of
streamlining a substantive proposal for the verbal-semantic component
of universal grammar.

interested? please respond before the end of April. thanks in advance.
