Subject:  Dept Chair for Modern Languages Dept at U of Mississippi

The University of Mississippi will appoint a Department Chair for the
Department of Modern Languages to begin July 1, 1999.  This is a
tenure-track, twelve-month appointment.  The successful candidate will
have an earned PhD, a record of scholarly attainment and experience to
support appointment at the rank of either Associate Professor or
Professor.  Salary negotiable.  The Department has twelve tenured or
tenure-track faculty; offers the MA in Spanish, French, German; offers
undergraduate instruction in Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese,
Japanese.  Interdisciplinary linguistics program.  To insure full

Subject:  General Ling; Visiting Lecturer at U of Pittsburgh

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh announces
a position for a Visiting Lecturer, effective January 1, 1999. This
position will be for an initial appointment of one term, with the
possibility of renewal for the 1999-2000 academic year (September
1-April 30, 2000). The main responsibility associated with this position
is the teaching of three courses per term. The ideal candidate will be
able to teach introductory courses in Linguistics, as well as Historical
Linguistics and/or Morphology.
