Instructional Technology Consultant - Foreign Languages

	Mount Holyoke College has an immediate opening for an
instructional technology consultant in the department of Curriculum
Support and Instructional Technology.  Responsibilities will include
facilitating the use of computing technology and multimedia into
foreign language teaching and assisting foreign language faculty in
the use of a broad range of hardware and software. This individual
will manage and maintain the Language Resource Center computing
facilities; act as liaison to faculty in foreign language departments
to gather information about instructional needs and be a communication
conduit between faculty and the department as a whole; and design,
document and lead workshops for faculty and students.  Qualified
applicants must have a minimum of two years full-time work experience
in instructional technology or academic computing support, preferably
with foreign language. Individuals should have significant experience
in supporting a variety of software applications; be knowledgeable
about two or more platforms: Mac, Windows, UNIX; have experience in a
networked environment; and have knowledge of applications such as
Authorware, Director, web page development, Photoshop, Premiere,
PowerPoint. Experience working collaboratively in group situations;
communicating effectively with non-technical personnel; project
management experience and demonstrated success working with faculty
are all essential to be successful in this position. Bachelor's degree
required; Master's degree preferred.  Knowledge of computing
applications and solutions for foreign language processing is
preferred.

The Linguistics Department at the University of Oregon has a
tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor of Linguistics with
specialization in Second Language Acquisition and Applied Linguistics,
beginning Fall 1999.  Salary is competitive depending on qualifications
and experience.  The successful candidate must hold a doctorate at time
of appointment; have excellent qualifications for undergraduate and
graduate teaching and for directing graduate research; and demonstrate
an excellent research and publication program in empirical, functional,
and cognitive approaches to second language acquisition and in at least
one of the following specializations: language teaching, language
planning, minority language development and maintenance.  Experience
working with K-12 second-language teachers and with intensive-
English-language programs is desirable.
