Research Associate (Linguistics & Phonetics)

The University of Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking to appoint a Research
Associate in the Department of Speech. You will be expected to carry
out a programme of research allied to one of the department's key
areas of research activity;  phonological variation and change,
developmental and acquired speech and language impairment,
bilingualism and language contact. There will be ample opportunity for
collaboration with existing staff and interaction with existing
projects. In addition, you will be expected to do up to 6 hours per
week of teaching in the areas of child language development and/or
linguistics and phonetics to students on the department's clinical
programmes.

You should have completed or be about to complete research at doctoral
level in phonetics and/or linguistics. Applicants from qualified
speech and language therapists would be welcome, but a professional
qualification is not required for this post.

This is a well-found and expanding multidisciplinary department, with
an on-site clinical suite, language sample analysis suite and
phonetics laboratory, and a good record in both research and teaching.
It offers an excellent environment for carrying out post-doctoral
research.

The post is tenable for three years from 1st January 1999 or as soon
as possible thereafter. The appointment will be made at the
appropriate point on the RA1A scale (stlg15,735 - stlg23,651 p.a.) according
to qualifications and experience.

Teaching Positions at National Chi Nan University Puli, Taiwan,

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature of National Chi Nan
University announces the following open positions beginning with the
1999-2000 academic year.

Linguistics (1-3 tenure-track positions, assistant professor or higher)

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. by July of 1999 in theoretical
linguistics (preferably in phonology ) or applied linguistics

In addition to conducting and publishing scholarly research, full-time
faculty are required to teach undergraduate courses such as composition,
conversation, reading, and listening lab.
