Subject: Verbal ability test for L2

Does anyone know a verbal ability test, such as BVAT (Bilingual Verbal
Ability Tests), that can measure a second language learner's verbal
ability in JAPANESE?

I am wondering how researchers set criteria for L2 subject's language
ability in their researchers.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Subject: English dialect attitudes, prejudices, etc.

A student in my intro to English history course wants to write her
term paper on attitudes, prejudices, etc. relating to British and
American English. Since this particular issue is outside my own areas
of expertise I'm looking for some reference sources to recommend to
her. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
If there's enough interest I'll post a summary.

Best,
Steven
