Visiting Position in Linguistics
Linguistics Program
Carleton College
Northfield, MN 55057

The Linguistics Program invites applications for a one-year
visiting position, beginning in September, 1999, probably
renewable for a second year. Rank and specialization are
open, though preference will be given to candidates with
expertise in syntax and/or morphology. Salary will be
commensurate with experience. Ph.D. is required at the time
of application.

The Carleton Linguistics Program has one regular faculty
member, who is the Director of the Program. Responsibilities
of the visitor include teaching five courses during the
first year, one in the fall term, two in each of the winter
and spring terms. (A six course load is normal at Carleton.)
During the second year, the visitor would teach two courses
each term and be the Acting Director of the Linguistics
Program, as a leave replacement.

We will begin reviewing dossiers on December 1, 1998 and
continue until the position is filled. Interested persons
should send a letter of application, a current curriculum
vitae, one representative paper, and the names and addresses
of three references to:

Michael Flynn
Director of Linguistics
Carleton College
Northfield, MN 55057

Excellence in teaching is a very important aspect of the
job. Candidates are invited to discuss this aspect of their
qualifications in the letter of application.

Inquiries are welcome to Professor Michael Flynn at
mjflynn at carleton.edu or at (507) 646-4020. Interviews will
be conducted at the Linguistics Society of America annual
meeting in Los Angeles in January. For more information
about our program, please visit our web pages at

Program.

Carleton College is an Equal Opportunity Employer and
specifically invites applications from women and minority
