Subject: Hosting Lists on the LINGUIST Listserv

We occasionally receive queries from linguists who would like to know
whether we would be willing to host their lists on the LINGUIST
listserv.

Some of these queries come from those who already run lists, but who
do so on problematic platforms or with mailing-list software which is
inadequate. Other queries come from those who would like to start a
new list, and have managed to find no home for it.

So, we felt it would be a good thing if we made clear our policy on
this question. As a service to the linguistic community, we will host
lists on the LINGUIST listserv, provided we are sure that the list is
genuinely academic and genuinely linguistic in orientation, and
remains so during its existence.

Anyone wishing to know more details on this may contact Anthony
Aristar, at the address aristar at linguistlist.org.
