POSITION 1

The Department of Speech and Hearing Science at The Ohio State University
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in language
acquisition/language disorders.

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor

Qualifications: Completed doctorate in speech/language pathology or related
field; CCC-SLP preferred, but not required; potential for excellence in
research and teaching; research specialization in the area of language
acquisition and/or disorders.  This position is part of an interdisciplinary
research emphasis on human language processing.

Appointment: Academic year (9 month) contract, tenure-track position

Duties and Responsibilites: Conduct research in area of expertise, seek
extramural funding for research activities, teach undergraduate and/or
graduate course, advise graduate students, and participate in related
scholarly activities.  Supervision of clinical practicum is not required.

Salary: Negotiable

Facilities: The Department is housed in a well-equipped, 30,000 sq. ft.
facility containing our research space (individual faculty laboratories),

Postdoctoral Position Available Immediately.  Topic area:
Cross-Disciplinary Research on Cochlear Implants.  Department of Speech and
Hearing Science, The Ohio State University

A Postdoctoral Research Training Fellowship (National Institutional Research
Service Award Fellowship) for PhDs or MDs is available at The Ohio State
University. This postdoctoral traineeship provides an opportunity to pursue
focused research (either basic research or clinical research) on speech
perception by persons with cochlear implants.  Emphasis of this training
program is on cross-disciplinary research.  The faculty involved are Marios
Fourakis (Department of Speech and Hearing Science) and Bradley Welling
(Department Otolaryngology).  Potential trainees should have a doctorate and
be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residence status.  This traineeship is
for two years. Support will include a stipend, moving expenses, travel, and
other training-related expenses.

Program in Speech and Hearing Sciencem Department of Speech and Hearing
Science, The Ohio State University

A second Postdoctoral Research Training Fellowship (National Institutional
Research Service Award Fellowship) for PhDs or MDs is available (one
immediately; a second on 1 July 1997).  This postdoctoral traineeships
provide an opportunity to pursue focused research (either basic research or
clinical research) in one of five areas of concentration within the
discipline of speech and hearing science including speech production, speech
processing, psychoacoustics, speech perception, and speech-language
development.  Emphasis of this training program is on cross-disciplinary
research.  The training faculty come from many different departments
including the Departments of Speech and Hearing Science (Robert Fox,
Lawrence Feth, Jan Weisenberger, Osamu Fujimura, Marios Fourakis, Jan
Edwards, Sandy Schneider, Michael Trudeau), Linguistics (Mary Beckman, Keith
Johnson,), Psychology (Mari Jones, Neal Johnson, Caroline Palmer, Mark Pitt,
Julie Boland), Otolaryngology (Kamran Barin, Tom DeMaria), Electrical
Engineering (Ashok Krishnamurthy, Stan Ahalt, Randy Moses), Zoology (William

The Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies has seven full-time
staff and teaches undergraduate courses at all levels in the Spanish
language; Spanish and Latin American social and political history, and
various areas of Hispanic culture. It also supervises postgraduate research
in these fields. The successful applicant will participate in the teaching,
coordination and development of the Department's language program at all
levels.

Essential criteria: native or near-native competence in Spanish;
postgraduate research degree in Spanish linguistics, preferably with a
special interest in second language teaching and/or learning, and a
documented commitment to extend such research; demonstrated excellence in
teaching Spanish as a second language at all levels in tertiary
institutions, as well as an understanding of equity and diversity
principles.

Desirable criteria: published and ongoing research in the area of second
language acquisition; interest in the application of new technologies to
second language teaching and ability to participate elsewhere in the
Department's multi-disciplinary program.

The salary range is A$48,678 - A$57,806 per year depending on
qualifications and
experience. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
condition of employment.
