(Post) Graduate Research Stipends for doctoral research in Language
Processing and Linguistics.

As part of an interdisciplinary research initiative into the linguistic,
computational and psycholinguistic bases of human language processing,
the University of Queensland is offering four doctoral stipends for the
year 2000, each to the value of $A8,000 per annum, which recipients may
use to supplement other sources of funding for full-time graduate study
(e.g., APAs for Australian graduates). The stipend is for the first year
of doctoral study, with the possibility of renewal each year over three
years.
The doctoral stipends are intended in the first instance for students
who wish to pursue a program of study that involves collaboration across
the Departments of English (Linguistics), Speech Pathology & Audiology,
Computer Sciences and Electrical Engineering and the School of
Psychology.

Applicants should feel free to nominate their own preferred area of
research. However, opportunities for collaborative research exist
principally in the following areas:

1. Connectionist modelling of natural language processing.
2. Psycho-linguistic investigations of aphasia or language disorders in
dementia.
3. Linguistic reconstruction and language change in Australian
languages.
4. Computational evolutionary modelling of language origins and language
change.
5. Phonetics and phonology.
