FACULTY POSITIONS STARTING AUGUST 2000


Multiple Faculty Positions in TEFL:

1.  Professor or Associate Professor
2.  Assistant Professor
3.  Lecturer

Multi-year renewable positions for applicants with M.A. or Ph.D. in
TEFL, Curriculum and Instruction, Applied Linguistics, or other relevant
field, preferably with background in educational technology and language
testing/assessment.  Deadline for receipt of applications: February 22, 2000.


4.  Assistant or Associate Professor in English and Drama/Theater

Multi-year renewable position for applicant with Ph.D. in English or
relevant field with background in drama/theater.  Courses to be taught
include drama, literature, and composition and oral skills courses in an
EFL environment.  Deadline for receipt of applications: January 25,
2000.

For all positions, successful applicants will have a demonstrated
commitment to teaching and scholarship in a regional (Taiwan) and
international context, be willing to participate in curriculum/program
coordination, and be willing to make minimum three-year commitment.

The department invites applications and nominations for the position
of Chair.  Consisting of approximately 60 full-time faculty lines, the
department offers an undergraduate major and minor; an M.A. in English
(with concentrations in literature, technical writing, creative
writing, composition, language and linguistics, and ESL); an M.F.A. in
Creative Writing, and a Ph.D. in Writing and Language Studies (with
concentrations in Composition Studies, Professional Writing, Applied
Linguistics, and Textual Studies). The University of Memphis is a
comprehensive state university with an enrollment of approximately
20,000 students, including 450 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate
students in English. Qualifications: Ph.D. in English; undergraduate
and graduate teaching experience; outstanding publications; and
experience in academic administration. Candidates should qualify for
rank of professor. Salary competitive. Starting date
negotiable. Committee will begin reading applications 13 December
1999; applications will continue to be considered until the position
