Making Sense of Discourse Analysis
by Brian Paltridge

This third volume in the Making Sense of Language series introduces
approaches to the analysis of spoken and written discourse.

The book is suitable for university coursework degrees ,and as a
reference for teachers, as well as for use in professional development
courses, seminars and programs for language teachers. The book can
also be used by teachers or students working by themselves.

Each chapter includes sample texts that illustrate key points,
exercises with answers and explanations, and suggestions for further
reading.

A particular strength of the book is the range of approaches it
covers, as well as the accessible and practical way in which they are
treated. Brian Paltridge is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of
Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. He
has published widely in the area of applied linguistics, and language
learning and teaching. He is author of Genre, Frames and Writing in
Research Settings (John Benjamins) and co-author of Context: An
Australian Intensive English Course (Longman Australia).
