Teaching Positions at
National Chi Nan University

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature of National Chi Nan
University announces the following open positions beginning with the 2000-2001
academic year.

I. Anglo-American Literature (1 tenure-track position)
    Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in English or a related field by July of
2000.

II. Linguistics (1 tenure-track position)
   Applicants should hold a Ph.D. by July of 2000, preferably, Computational
Linguistics or Applied Linguistics

III. English Language Teaching (1 tenure-track position)
   Applicants (Native speakers of English are preferred.) should hold a Ph.D.
by July of 2000 in related fields.

In addition to conducting and publishing scholarly research, full-time faculty
are required to teach undergraduate courses such as composition, conversation,
reading, and listening lab.

Applicants should provide: (1) letter of interest; (2) C.V.; (3) three letters
of recommendation; (4) Ph.D. dissertation and representative publications; (5)
official transcripts of graduate studies; (6) photocopy of graduate diploma
(if already in hand); (7) proof of past and/or current employment (if
available).

AMERICAN STUDIES & ETHNICITY
        Note: Linguists are encouraged to apply.
        In conjunction with the inauguration of the new Ph.D. Program in
American Studies and Ethnicity, the University of Southern California invites
applications for five tenured/tenure-track positions for the Fall 2000:
two senior positions and one assistant professorship in African American
Studies; one senior and one junior position in Asian American Studies.
These are each joint appointments with departments in the Humanities and
Social Sciences (including Linguistics).

        The Program in American Studies and Ethnicity has particular
intellectual strengths in: 1) the study of race and ethnicity;
2)Los Angeles as a global city; 3) the analysis of culture.  Successful
candidates will have a strong teaching/research program that addresses
at least one of these emphases.  Junior applicants should have the Ph.D. in
hand by August 2000.  Send letter of application, CV, relevant
publications, and three letters of recommendation to Darnell Hunt and
Dorinne Kondo, Co-Chairs; Search Committee in American Studies
