I am working on the development of a basic Greek Sign Language
dictionary and I have no resources concerning the definition of a
basic vocabulary. Could anyone send me references about this topic
(concerning basic vocabulary of any language)?

Meillet, where he describes a linguist as someone who investigates the
exceptions, or instances of irregularity, in language (or words to that
effect).

Subject:  Text revision and translation textbooks

Dear Linguist members:

At James Madison University, in Virginia, we are setting up a new
program in translation. We teach translation, text revision and
bilingual lexicography/terminology in the following pairs:

English-into-Spanish
Spanish-into-English
French-into-English
German-into-English
Italian-into-English
Japanese-into-English
Chinese-into-English

and we also plan to do:
Arabic-English.

1) Would anyone be so kind as to point out good textbooks in
text revision/linguistic revision/bilingual editing in these pairs of
languages? For the time being, I only have one reference! It is from
French into English and dates back to 1980. Our most immediate
priority is Spanish-English editing/revision.

2) In addition, I would welcome any reference for textbooks in
translation, be it general or specialized, that would be relevant to
the above mentioned pairs of languages. If you have already used these
books, please feel free to submit your opinions/criticisms.

3) Finally, references about bilingual terminology/ lexicography
textbooks would be most useful.

Your input will be most welcome. Of course, I will post a
summary/synthesis of all relevant replies.  I think this summary may
be useful to all translation program coordinators.
