The University of North Texas English Department's Division of
Linguistics invites applications for a one-year replacement
position, beginning in September, 1999.  The Ph.D. in linguistics is
required by September 1, 1999.  The 3/3 teaching duty of this position
will involve teaching various undergraduate linguistics courses and
one graduate-level course in sociolinguistics.

Linguistics and Language Development.

APPOINTMENT DATE :

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. or ABD in Linguistics

SJSU is looking for a computational linguist to develop courses in
natural language processing and/or speech recognition/synthesis, and
to establish liaison with industries in Silicon Valley. Additional
areas of specialization should be syntax,semantics, or morphology. The
candidate would also be expected to teach introduction to linguistics
and nature of language courses.  Evidence of teaching ability and
scholarly activity required.

Required: awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a
multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural
study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach courses in linguistics at the undergraduate
and graduate level; develop courses in computational linguistics;
establish liaison with industry; work cooperatively with colleagues.
Address the needs of a student population of great diversity--in age,
cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic
preparation--through course materials, teaching strategies and
advisement. The full-time teaching load is normally four courses a
semester.

SALARY RANGE: $31,680.00 - $47,844.00 Annual Salary
