Institute Of Linguistics, Academia SinicaFour(4) Tenure-track
Positions--Open-rank, Open-specialization

The Institute of Linguistics of Academia Sinica in Taipei invites
applications for research positions in linguistics. Four tenure-track
positions are immediately available, with additional positions
expected to open up in future years. Non-tenure track post-doctoral
positions pending budgetary approval are also available. These are
pure research positions with no teaching requirement. Both rank and
area of specialization are open, though preference will be given to
those with interest and experience in Asian languages such as Chinese,
Austronesian, Austroasiatic, and Tibeto-Burman languages. Minimal
qualifications are a Ph.D. degree in hand at time of appointment, a
thorough training in general linguistics and given areas of
specialization, and a strong commitment to excellence in research and
publication. The starting salary for an Assistant Research Fellow, the
same level as that of an assistant professor at a national university,
is NT$864,780 (about US$25,500 per annum but with a much higher
purchasing power in Taiwan), plus fringe benefits including health
insurance, bonuses, and travel subsidies. Competitive salaries
commensurate with experience and qualifications are also available for
those with prior experience or appointed at the Associate or Full
Research Fellow positions.Applicants are requested to send a letter of
application plus an up-to-date curriculum vitae, sample publications,
and three letters of recommendation to:

school transcripts and extended abstracts of their
Ph.D. dissertations. Applications are accepted continuously until all
positions are filled. Every three months, shortlisted applicants will
be notified and requested to send in complete dossiers for final
review and evaluation. The (de facto) Institute of Linguistics is a
newly established unit of Academia Sinica, with approved plans for
substantial further expansion and development. All qualified and
interested candidates are encouraged to apply and join us in charting
the future of the Institute. For more information about the job
