A one year post funded by the Leverhulme Trust is available from 1st March
1999 (or as soon as possible thereafter), to assist Professor A Lodge in an
investigation of the history of colloquial Parisian French.   The project
will involve the assembly of relevant linguistic documents and their
preparation for computer analysis.  You should hold a doctorate in an
aspect of French linguistics or in some other field of French studies which
has enabled you to acquire a detailed knowledge of earlier stages of the
development of French (preferably the 17th-18th centuries).

Japanese lecturer position
at State University of New York at Buffalo

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications
for a full-time lecturer position in Japanese language starting August,
1999.  Appointment for one year, renewable contingent upon funding and
performance.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Japanese language and
culture courses, assisting a course in Japanese language pedagogy, and
participate in program development.  Candidates must 1) hold an M.A. in
language pedagogy, linguistics, or related fields, 2) have native or
near-native fluency in both Japanese and English, 3) have experience in
teaching Japanese as a foreign language at the college level, 4) be able
to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a program that utilizes a
team-teaching approach.  Send a letter of application, C.V., and three
