LECTURESHIP IN LANGUAGE VARIATION AND CHANGE


Candidates should have a strong commitment to research in Language
Variation and Change, demonstrable ability in quantitative variationist
methodology and a sound background in modern linguistic theory.

Preference may be given to candidates who specialise in languages taught
within the department (English, French, German, Hindi) or whose
interests combine areas of Linguistic Variation and theoretical
linguistics, but other candidates are also encouraged to apply. The
department is strongly committed to research and recognizes the
implications of that commitment.

The appointment will be made on the Lecturer Grade A ), currently #17238
- #22579, depending on qualifications and experience. The post would
suit someone who has a doctorate and or/publications and who has
embarked on or is about to embark on a full academic career. The post is
available from January 2000.

Applications are being accepted for a tenure-track position in Linguistics
starting September 1, 2000. This position is subject to budgetary approval.
Appointment will be made at the assistant professor rank. A primary
specialization in second language acquisition and second language teaching
with strong expertise in Linguistics are required for this position. The
successful candidate will be assigned teaching duties in Teaching English
as a Second Language and applied linguistics courses, as well as a range of
other linguistics courses at all levels. Candidates should hold a PhD in
linguistics or other field with a linguistics specialization, show strong
promise as a researcher, be prepared to become active in the development
and management of undergraduate and graduate courses, and to accept
graduate supervision duties. Interested applicants are invited to send a
