Lecturer, Syntax and/or Historical Linguistics.

The Department of Linguistics at the California State University
Fresno has a one-year lecturer position open for a historical linguist
and/or syntactician for the academic year 1999-2000.  Teaching load is
12 units (4 classes) per semester.  PhD or ABD in Linguistics
required.

Kansai University, Osaka Japan

The Faculty of Letters at Kansai University, Osaka, Japan, seeks a
Professor or Associate Professor in English.  Kansai University, one
of the largest universities in Japan, is committed to improving the
quality of foreign language instruction.  The job begins on April 1,
2000.  Qualifications should include a Ph. D. or Ed. D. in the fields
of Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, ESL, Language
Pedagogy, or linguistics, and applicants should have at least five
years of teaching experience in the field, preferably at graduate
level.  Preferences will be given to candidates with a high level of
English proficiency, and (working) knowledge of Japanese.
Responsibilities are teaching English language courses to
undergraduate students, a course in Applied Linguistics at graduate
level, and committee responsibilities.  Salary is competitive and is
based on Kansai University specifications. By July 31, 1999, send (1)
a curriculum vitae/resume according to our format, and (2) copies of
three major publications.  Review of application will begin on August
1, 1999. Results of the first screening will be sent in mid-August.
For the second screening, we will ask candidates to send a video tape
of their teaching (approximately 10 minutes) by the middle of
