The Integrated English Language Program (IELP-II) is a technical
assistance and training project funded by USAID and administered by
the Academy for Educational Development (AED) and AMIDEAST in order to
improve English language teaching and teacher education in Egypt.
IELP-II is seeking a U.S. consultant for a 3-4 week assignment in
Egypt during September-November, 1999, preferably October.

The consultant should be a U.S. professor of TESOL, Applied
Linguistics or a related field with expertise in pre-service teacher
education program development. The consultancy will involve planning
and leading three two-day meetings for Egyptian faculty members on
program planning and development, and helping develop a Request for
Proposals which will be circulated among Egyptian universities so that
they can competetively bid to participate in further IELP-sponsored
activities in support of enhanced pre-service teacher education
programs.

Reimbursement for the consultant will include round-trip air expenses,
hotel and per diem costs, and a daily salary based on the consultant's
salary history within USAID guidelines.

Criteria for selection of the consultant include (1) expertise in
pre-service teacher education program development in TESOL and (2)
prior relevant experience in developing countries, preferably in Egypt
or the Middle East.

Interested parties should (1) contact Robert Burch
(rburch at aedegypt.org) to receive a draft statement of work for the
consultancy and (2) submit a brief cover letter and short or long CV
expressing interest. The consultancy will be open until filled and
all those expressing interest by June 27, 1999 will be guaranteed full
consideration.
