The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, San Diego
has a tenure-track opening at the Assistant Professor level for a
specialist in phonology.  Strength in a language area is desirable.  A
Ph.D. in linguistics is required. A letter of application, a curriculum
vitae, and representative work should be sent to:

To be considered for an interview at the LSA meetings in January
application materials must be received no later than December 30, 1998.
Otherwise materials must be received not later than February, 1999. The
candidate should arrange for 3 referees to send letters of reference to the

addresses and fax numbers) with the application. The candidate selected
will be appointed as of November 1, 1999 and will assume his/her duties as
of January 1, 2000.  Salary is based on University of California pay
