John Benjamins Publishing announces the publication of these two new works
in language acquisition

Morphology and its Interfaces in Second Language Knowledge.
Maria-Luise BECK (ed.)
Language Acquisition and Language Disorders 19
US & Canada: 1 55619 784 5 / USD 75.00 (Hardcover)
Rest of world: 90 272 2487 0 / NLG 150.00 (Hardcover)

This volume treats the connection between syntax and morphology with a
focus on L2 acquisition. This interface has been a matter of
considerable interest in theoretical circles ever since Chomsky (1994)
and others argued that morphological parameters form the primary locus
of cross-linguistic variation. As might be expected, generative
theorists working in the area of language acquisition have responded
to this argument with various analyses. L2 research is no exception: A
variety of researchers have begun serious explorations on the ways in
which morphology may (or may not) trigger variation not only in
syntax, but also in argument structure. The volume thus brings
together a concentrated research effort on the topic from an L2
perspective. The volume starts off with a comprehensive introduction
to the various sub-topics and ends with an extensive index.

The Acquisition of Dutch.
Preface by Catherine Snow.

Rest of world: 90 272 5065 0 / NLG 170.00 (Hardcover)

In the present-day context of cross-linguistic perspectives on
language acquisition, The Acquisition of Dutch offers a much needed
overview of the wealth of Dutch child language research that was
hitherto lacking. Its comprehensive coverage in terms of topics, its
many new theoretical contributions and its focus on providing a solid
basis for cross-linguistic comparisons will be of interest to
linguists and psycholinguists studying child language everywhere.

The volume consists of four thematic chapters preceded by an
introductory overview. The thematic chapters cover early speech
development in the first year of life, the acquisition of phonology,
the lexicon and syntax. The consolidated list of references cover
most of the work on Dutch child language in the last few decades.
