Linguistics Tenure Track Position
The Linguistics Department at the University of Manitoba invites
applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of
Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2000, subject to budgetary
approval. Salary will be commensurate with experience and
qualifications. The 2000-2001 salary range for this position is
$42,524 - $50,000. A large proportion of our undergraduate majors are
preparing for graduate study and careers in speech-language
pathology. We are looking for an individual to teach courses relevant
to the needs of this population, as well as to complement the existing
teaching and research strengths of the Department.
Teaching duties will include courses in the anatomy and physiology of
speech, neurolinguistics, communication disorders, and one or more
core areas of linguistics. The ability to teach courses in language
acquisition and/or instrumental phonetics will be an asset.
The successful candidate will have an active research program in an
area of linguistics related to the teaching duties, such as
psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, phonetics or clinical
linguistics, and will be expected to supervise MA and PhD students in
their area of specialization.
A doctoral degree in linguistics or a closely related discipline must
be completed by the time of appointment.

TRANSLATORS WANTED: TEAM MEMBERS AND TEAM LEADERS
SDL International (http://www.sdlintl.com) is a leading supplier of

for technical translators of all major European, Asian and South

Projects include translation of software, on-line help, Web Sites,
documentation, games, as well as testing of localised products and

The successful candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Degree in Translation and excellent computer literacy
- High level of interest in software and computer-related technologies
- Detail-oriented and quality-focused
For team leaders, the candidates should also have:
- 2 years' minimum experience of technical translation for Windows/Mac
OS/Unix-based applications (computing, CAD, telecommunications,
financial, mechanical and/or electrical engineering)
- Familiarity with translation tools such as Trados and Star Transit
- Organised, able to deal with a busy environment
- Excellent communication skills
