Call for Papers

Second Annual
Shenandoah Language and Linguistics Society Symposium
at
Southern Virginia College
March 16-17, 2000

Keynote Speaker:
John P. Broderick, Old Dominion University
Language and Consciousness: Some Insights from Research on Discourse
Intonation

The Shenandoah Language and Linguistics Society Symposium is issuing a
call for papers for their upcoming symposium. The theme for this year
is Revealing Language. The ambiguity of the phrase evokes possibilities
for an interdisciplinary array of papers: both papers on language as a
tool for revealing insights into literature, culture, and life and
papers that reveal insights about language.

The conference welcomes papers treating a variety of topics in language
and linguistics. This includes not only papers treating topics within
linguistic disciplines such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics,
pragmatics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and applied
linguistics, but also interdisciplinary presentations that involve
language analysis.

Deadline for submitting an abstract: January 15, 2000
