Subject:  Chinese Linguistics Position at UCLA

University of California, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1540. The
Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures invites applications/nominations
for a position in Chinese Linguistics.

It is a tenure-track position in Chinese Linguistics at the
assistant professor rank.  We seek a specialist in functional, applied, or
historical linguistics, with a
strong commitment to Chinese-language pedagogy and TA training. The
appointee will coordinate the dept.'s large Chinese language program, teach
courses in intermediate and advanced modern Chinese, and contribute to the
dept.'s East Asian comparative linguistics graduate program. Ph.D. expected
upon appointment.

The appointment to begin July 1, 2000. Send letter of application, vita,
detailed
statement of research & teaching interests, representative publications, and

The Special Research Project of the Investigation into Languages and
Cultures of the East and the West at the University of Tsukuba is seeking
applicants for a non-tenure-track (associate/assistant) professor in
linguistics.


Appointment begins on April 1, 2000.

Contract: Two years (No renewal). For more details, please get in touch

Duties: To do research on the lexicon and database of languages and
cultures and to do works related to the Special Research Project.

Qualifications: Ph. D. in linguistics.

Annual Salary: Decided depending on applicant's educational background and
professional career: (Not negotiable.)

Housing: An unfurnished apartment with reasonable rent is available.
