Subject:  TESOL/Applied Linguistics

Grand Valley State University. Assistant Professor of English,
tenure-track (TESOL/Applied Linguistics). The Department of English at
Grand Valley State University seeks an applied linguist to fill a
tenure-track position in English. The position starts August, 2000.
Requirements: Doctorate in TESOL, applied linguists, or related field.
ABD considered if degree is completed by date of employment. The
position requires teaching and research experience in general and
applied linguistics, with expertise in at least two of the following
areas: ESL methods, sociolinguistics, history of English, second
language acquisition, assessment, minority language acquisition and/or
literacy studies. Public school ESL experience preferred.
Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate
linguistics and TESOL courses. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Assistant Professor of English

Asst. Prof. of English, effective Fall 2000, tenure-track.  Credentials
(Teacher Preparation) specialist to teach applied linguistics and/or
literature classes for perspective elementary and/or secondary teachers.
Four-course load with diverse student population, committee work,
advising, scholarly work, salary range $40,488 to $44,424;  Ph.D. required;
will accept ABD applications with hiring at temporary instructor level but
must complete Ph.D. by end of first year; then depending on satisfactory
evaluation, funding, and program needs, may be converted to Asst. Prof.
on tenure-track.  College-level teaching in Credentials (Teacher
Preparation) preferred; ability to teach composition required; ability to
teach English literature classes desirable   Application deadline:  will
accept applications until position is filled, but to be eligible for interview
at MLA in Chicago, application must be received by November 22, 1999.
