Assistant Professor
TESL/Applied Linguistics

The Department of English and the cross-disciplinary Program in
Linguistics at Iowa State University announce a tenure-track position at
the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2000.  The faculty
member will participate in an M.A. TESL/Applied Linguistics program, an
interdisciplinary B.A. program in linguistics, and contribute toward
developing a Ph.D. program in applied linguistics (AL).  Applicants
should have potential for excellence in applied
research on oral discourse, including pronunciation, and should be
proficient in using technology for analyzing and teaching oral language
(e.g., corpus-based approaches, text-to-speech technologies, or speech
analysis).  Expertise in one or more of the following is also desirable:
 K-12 ESL/EFL teaching, curriculum design, distance education, language
for specific purposes, computer-assisted language learning.  Primary
duties will include (1) teaching undergraduate, graduate, and ITA
courses, (2) supervising TESL/AL theses, (3) serving on graduate
committees in TESL/AL and other areas, and (4)
contributing to TESL/AL program development.  Applicants should hold a
Ph.D. in AL, SLA, or related field and have ESL/EFL experience by time
of appointment.
